It's not easy to run a robust print studio, and it's even harder to start one from scratch, but there is a long history of independent, artist-run printmaking studios in Massachusetts. Connected across generations by collaborations both artistic and practical, New Impressions Print Studio, in Somerville, MA, is one of the latest to take on the daunting task.

New Impressions co-founders Stacy Friedman and Andrew Stearns met at MassArt in Boston and were already deeply engaged with the local printmaking community before starting on the journey to open their own studio. This exhibition showcases their own work, some of the collaborative print work produced in the studio, work by studio community members, and materials that help tell the story of what it took to get an independent press up and running, from an emptied-out former commercial bakery and a dream to the busy, vibrant art space that it is today.

This exhibition will be on view from August 31 - October 2. The exhibition is open to the public Thursday - Sunday, 12:00 - 5:00 pm, or by appointment. The Gallery is generally closed to the public outside of these hours. 

The Gallery is located on the main floor of the Jewett Arts Center at Wellesley College. The Gallery is free to visit. Visitors driving to campus should park in the Davis Parking Facility near the Central St. entrance to campus and walk to Jewett from there; see a campus map here.

The exhibition is open to Wellesley College faculty, staff, and students who have swipe access to the building every day for the entirety of its run, whenever the Art and Music Libraries are open.

A reception to celebrate with the studio co-founders will be held on Thursday Sept. 17 from 5:00 - 6:30 pm. This reception will be open to the public.
