Fast Track German Language Acquisition

Fast-track German Language Acquisition

The Department of German Studies offers an exciting way to accelerate your language learning: Take the regular sequence of three semesters of German during the academic year (German 101-102, and German 201) on campus, then take your last semester (German 202W) in the January-in-Berlin program, a fourth-semester course taught by a member of our Wellesley German Department faculty. (Note: this course is not offered every year; it is subject to Provost's Office approval each year.)
German 202W is offered during the three-week Wintersession semester in January. It is a language immersion experience that includes daily classroom instruction as well as an exploration of the daily life, history, and culture of this European metropolis, with special emphasis on its rich artistic heritage. The course will include a number of required cultural excursions.
The group typically departs from Boston at the beginning of the winter session and will return to Boston before spring semester classes begin on campus. There will be a program fee for this course. Financial aid will be available to eligible students. Students earn 1.0 unit of credit for this course, as they would when they take German 202 on campus.
Students taking German 201 can apply for the program at the beginning of the fall term (exact deadlines will be announced at the beginning of October). Applicants are not guaranteed admissions to the program. Wellesley College reserves the right to change its programs if the need arises. Not offered every year. Subject to Provost's Office approval.
