Mark RoemischVisiting Lecturer in German Studies
Ludwig-Maximilians-University LMU; Staatlich gen. Schauspielstudio Gmelin (Conservatory for Dramatic Arts)
Specializes in contemporary German theater, post dramatic theater and contemporary German culture.
I specialize in contemporary German theater, post dramatic theater and contemporary German culture. As a conservatory trained actor I performed for many years all over Germany in film, television and theaters up to Broadway equivalent (Staatstheater).
Before joining Wellesley College, I taught in several institutions, including Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and New England Conservatory of Music. I am committed to seeking out new and enhanced pedagogical approaches, including the implication of theater practical methods in the classroom. Most recently I co-developed and performed a series of short, traditional German speaking puppet theatre shows for beginning and advanced German students at Harvard University.
For over a decade, I extend my exploration of the human condition from the theater to the intersection of acting and photography as a visual artist.
My most recent project involves a series of self-portraits in collaboration with personal narratives of strangers, incorporating a loved one in their lives.
My work has won several awards and has been exhibited internationally.
I teach all levels of German language and am very excited to offer an advanced class “language through theater” in spring.
To stay balanced, I love to travel and discover different cultures, practice yoga and Tai Chi, and enjoy cooking and eating good food.
