Stage I: Goal Setting and Performance Planning

Coordinating the movement of department office area from Building A to Building B including the relocation of all physical and computer equipment.

Specific Activities Planned to Achieve this Goal:

  • Develop detailed project plan for move
  • Identify any potential budget requirements
  • Be primary interface with other departments for the XYZ Department

Competency and Professional Development:

You understand Wellesley very well and know what you can do to assist department members to ensure that all departmental needs are met. You need to communicate effectively with other departments across the College including the Registrar’s Office, the Library, Purchasing, and the Budget Office. You need to strengthen relationships with other departments in order to communicate the needs of the department more effectively. (Goal focuses on Service to Constituents, Communication, and Collaboration.)

Subject/Goal Discussed:

I discussed with you your performance as the primary interface on the move of Department XYZ and agreed that your hard work and good follow-up was keeping the team on track. However, you need to become more comfortable sharing information on problems or delays that arise during the move. I agree to a brief weekly follow-up meeting throughout the move to facilitate communication about issues impacting the move.

Stage III: Performance Assessment and Review


Goal Review:

Degree to which Expected Results Were Achieved:

  • Participated as project leader for move of XYZ Department.
  • Planned, analyzed and anticipated physical space needs and design through proactive communication with faculty, staff and Physical Plant Administration.
  • Department moved and experienced some downtime as a result of inadequate contingency planning.


Competency Assessment:

You continue to excel in constituent knowledge and service orientation. Your understanding of the complexities involved in delivering a high level of service in the midst of a major disruption has increased. Communication with critical resources has improved. Your timely response to changes in plans helped to facilitate a smooth transition. Going forward, you need to continue to inform me of potential problems in a timely manner.

Summary:

Overall, you have had a successful year. All hardware and software is functioning properly although the department experienced a two-week disruption in service. XYZ Department is now established in Building B. Through the process of the move, you have established contacts with many employees in different departments including the Physical Plant, Telecommunications, and Information Services. You have also established relationships with your peers in ABC and DEF departments who had completed successful moves in the past. The information that we exchange in our weekly meetings keeps me informed about issues in departmental operations.

We will meet shortly to discuss your goals for the coming year including taking on the budget for X program. Based on the experience you gained coordinating our move, I am confident that you will be successful in this endeavor.
