Reusing Content from a Previous Sakai Site

Reusing Content from a Previous Sakai Site

Copy content from one site to another

If you spent time getting a course site just right, you can use it again. Everything from complex Lessons with Gradebook integration to simple and functional folders and files in the Resources tool can be imported into your latest course site template and then updated for the current semester using Import from Site and the Date Manager.

Import Content from a previous Site

  1. Start at the current semester’s course site.

  2. Click on the Site Info tool.

  3. Choose Import from Site from the Site Info tabs.

  4. Take care with this next step:

    • Unless you are using the Gradebook, choose "I would like to merge my data".

      • This will not delete any information you have already added to your current site.

    • If you are using the Gradebook, choose I would like to replace my data.

      • If you already have content in this semester’s site, this choice will overwrite it.

  5. Choose the site with the content you want to import. (Often this is the last time you taught the course)

  6. Click Continue.

  7. Use the checkbox at the top of the right column to select all the tools or select individual tools whose content you would like to import.

  8. Click Finish.

Sakai will send you an email when the process is complete.

Date Manager

If you specified release and submission dates for content in the earlier site, you’ll need to change the dates to fit the current semester or else the students will never see the assignment because it was due the previous year. For example, an assignment from Fall 2020 was open for the students on October 1, 2020 and was due on October 8, 2020.

The Date Manager provides a one-stop shop where you can modify the dates for all the tools in your Sakai site. You can modify individual tools and items, or you can shift all the dates by a set number of days pushing them into a new semester all at once.

Note: Dates left blank, especially in Resources, mean the students will always be able to see that content. You don’t necessarily need to enter dates in all the fields.

  1. Go to Site Info

  2. Click on the Date Manager in the Site Info tabs.

  3. Pick a tool to expand it and change any associated dates.

  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save Changes.
