Common Login Error Messages
 

Below are common error messages when you are at the Secure VPN Login screen, and the resolutions for those error messages.

Login failed

  • Commonly due to a mistyped username or password. 
  • Rarely something on the server side is setup incorrectly.
  • Try logging in again, also try your account information on mail.wellesley.edu to make sure it is correct.

Access denied

  • Login and Password are correct, but the account does not have Secure VPN access.
  • If you think you should have access, but receive this error message, please contact the Computing Help Desk.
     

You have not been authorized for secure access...

  • Login and Password are correct, but the account does not have Secure VPN access.
  • If you think you should have access, but receive this error message, please contact the Computing Help Desk.
     

Does not meet policy set by admin

  • Login was successful, but the computer does not meet the antivirus requirements.
  • The Secure VPN requires one of the following antivirus applications to be installed and up to date.  If your software is not listed and you do not wish to switch, please contact the Computing Help Desk.
    • McAfee Endpoint Security
    • Windows Defender Security Center
    • McAfee Total Protection
    • Norton AntiVirus Plus
    • Sophos Home
    • Eset NOD32 Antivirus
  • Antivirus definitions must have been updated within the last 7 days.
    • Please run a definitions update of your antivirus program. 
    • If your computer has been powered off for a while, leave it on and connected to the internet.  Your antivirus program will usually update within an hour or so. 
    • You can also manually do the update if you know how to.
       

Unable to access Secure resources (Banner ERP, Vault)

You must use the https://vpn.wellesley.edu/secure/ website to login to the Secure VPN to get the correct access permissions for Banner ERP and Vault access.  If you log in to the regular VPN website (http://www.wellesley.edu/lts/techsupport/sslvpn) or log in directly from the AnyConnect Client software, you will not be given access to the Secure resources.
