Fetch for Macintosh

What is this software?

Fetch is an easy-to-use program for transferring files. It uses the Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) to allow a networked Mac to transfer files directly from or to any connected machine that supports SFTP.

Where to find this software

Campus classroom and lab Macs have Fetch installed.

You may install Fetch on your personal Mac.

Get the installer and license for Fetch

  1. Download version 5.8, or check to see which version you need, at the vendor's web site.
Note: If you see an error message warning you that it may contain an application, click Download.
  2. The license information you will need for 5.8 is available on the campus network:
    1. If on campus, make sure your computer is connected to Wellesley Secure WiFi
    2. If off campus, connect to the VPN
    3. Connect to the academicstore server using your Wellesley username and password
      • in the Finder's Go menu, Connect to server, smb://academicstore/software
(Got an error? try academicstore.wellesley.edu instead of just academicstore,
or wellesley\username instead of just your username)
    4. (TIPS if you have trouble accessing the installer)
    5. Open the folder containing the installer: facstaffstudents, then Fetch
    6. Open the FetchLicense text file
    7. Copy the license contained in the text file; it begins with FETCHEX001

    2. Drag the Fetch icon into the Applications folder (you may need to be in View > as Icons... in the Finder in order to see it).
