Our mission is to create innovative programs that spark conversation across departments and disciplinary boundaries.
We seek to respond creatively to changes in what constitutes the humanities today while underscoring the importance of contextualizing and historicizing our present moment. It is our firm belief that critical scholarship and artistic production address the central challenges that face human societies today. With a global and inclusive vision of the humanities, we invite faculty, students, artists, writers, and the Wellesley community to join the discussion.
From the heart of Green Hall, the Newhouse Center supports the humanities at Wellesley in myriad formats, including residential fellowships for faculty, open class sessions for students, and special programs such as our Distinguished Writers series. We encourage faculty to design projects that will further their goals as scholars and teachers while contributing to the intellectual life of the greater Wellesley community.
