Shelley McCann

Laboratory Specialist, Lab Manager, Laboratory Specialist in Biological Sciences

I am a geomicrobiologist with experience in marine microbiology and trace metal biogeochemistry. I earned an M.S. in Oceanography from the University of Connecticut where my research focused on methyl bromide metabolism by marine microbes and microbial sulfur cycling in stromatolites. As a research scientist with the U.S. Geological Survey, I studied arsenic biogeochemistry in extreme environments including Mono Lake, California. After many sunny years on the West Coast, I’m happy to have landed at Wellesley College where I work as part of the team of Lab Specialists, providing technical support for the lab-based curriculum. Outside the lab, I enjoy swimming, gardening, and exploring New England with my husband and son and our dog, Ronan.
