When will Summer Research start?

Summer Research 2021 will run from June 7 - July 30.

The program will start at 9AM (eastern) on Monday, June 7, and end at 5PM (Eastern) on July 30.  Please make your plans accordingly.

Will the program be on campus or remote?

We hope to be able to offer an on-campus summer research program this year, but given the uncertainties of the pandemic and vaccination, we can't guarantee this will be possible.  We will definitely have a program, and are planning to offer a "hybrid" model, where some students might be able to work on campus, while others work remotely.

If you are working on campus, you will be required to live on campus, in campus housing, and will be required to comply with all current campus policies related to COVID safety.

What projects are available?

Project descriptions can be found at this link.

Can I participate in the on-campus summer research if I'm not living on campus this spring semester?

Yes, you can apply.  If accepted, you will have to make your own travel arrangements to get to campus in time for the start of the program, and may be required to quarantine.  You will need to follow whatever protocols are in place at the time related to housing and living on campus.  Details will be updated as they are available, but given the uncertainty about vaccine availability, we can't provide more information just yet.

Can I apply for funding for a project at a non-Wellesley lab?

There will not be funding for students to work at off-campus institutions in summer 2021.  However, students who are working with Wellesley faculty at non-Wellesley locations may apply for support by selecting their faculty mentor's project.

How do I apply?

Detailed instructions on the application process can be found here.

Can I take a summer class if I'm participating in summer research?

No.  Summer research participation is a full-time commitment, and you will need to be available to work during hours that work for your entire research group.  Therefore, you will need to commit (honor code) to participating only in summer research if you apply.  Because summer research is a compensated program, you also cannot take another job while doing summer research.
