I am required to stay in campus housing this summer?

Students participating in the Summer Research Program are not required to live on campus. If you choose to live on campus, your housing costs ($1350) will be covered by the program. If you choose to live off campus, you will be able to do so at your own expense (i.e. you will not receive the $1350 waiver). If you want to live on campus, you must register for housing by April 30th. Summer housing this year will be in Stone-Davis.

Can I stay on campus between the spring semester and the Summer Research Program? Can I leave after the spring semester ends and return to campus for the Summer Research Program?

Yes, you have the option to stay in housing between the spring semester and the Summer Research Program. You also have the option to leave during this break. If you choose to leave campus during this break, you need to move out of your room entirely before departing. Student housing will offer short term storage in Stone Davis for you. Please remember that you need to return to campus with enough time to be tested and receive your results before the Summer Research Program begins (9 AM ET, May 31). Please contact Student Housing,, for more information.

If I live on campus, am I required to participate in a meal plan for the summer?

Yes, you are required to participate in the meal plan this summer if you live on campus. Currently, the full cost is $1900. However, you will be responsible for $950 (half of the cost). The College is covering the other half in collaboration with the Summer Research Program, through a waiver. Student Financial Services (SFS) will post this waiver to each student’s Workday account. Meals will not be prorated for students who arrive after May 31 or leave before August 13. Dining will be located in the Lulu Chow Wang Campus Center.

What projects are available?

How do I apply?

Detailed instructions on the application process can be found here.

Can I take a summer class if I'm participating in summer research?

No. Summer research participation is a full-time commitment, and you will need to be available to work during hours that work for your entire research group.  Therefore, you will need to commit (honor code) to participating only in summer research if you apply. This applies to courses offered at Wellesley or at other institutions. The exception is the Quantitative Analysis Institute Program.

Can I take another job while participating in summer research?

No. Because summer research is a compensated program, you cannot take another job while doing summer research.

Can I participate in the Quantitative Analysis Institute Summer Program 2022 while participating in the program?

Yes. You can participate in the Quantitative Analysis Institute Summer Program. If you are interested in participating in this course, speak with your faculty supervisor. Please contact Cassey Pattanayak at for more information about the course.
