Veronica Darer

Senior Lecturer Emerita in Spanish

Engaged in research on teaching and learning processes.  Specializes in Spanish language and culture courses.  Teaches courses on diversity in education and classroom interaction.

My research interests focus on analyzing classroom discourse and interactions to better understand students’ opportunities for learning success.  I have co-authored Reflejos, a Spanish language, literature, and culture text.

As an active member o various professional organizations, including the AATSP (American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese) and ACTFL (American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages), I enjoy presenting at national conferences to share and learn creative and effective ways to teach and learn languages.  I am a member-at-large of the Massachusetts Chapter of the AATSP.

I teach all levels of Spanish Language, Spanish for Heritage Speakers, and Latin American culture and civilization.  In the Education Department I teach a class on the impact of diversity on educational equity.

I like to spend time with family (including 5 grandchildren).  When I can, I love to watch independent films, go to the theatre and concerts, and take every chance to dance salsa and merengue.
