Assistant Dean of Intercultural Education and Advisor to Latinx Students

Mared Alicea-Westort (She/Her/Hers) is the Assistant Dean of Intercultural Education and Advisor to Latinx Students, a position she has held for more than seventeen years at Wellesley College, where she serves as a resource for Latinx students on campus. As part of her work, she advocates for the visibility of students of Latinx and multiracial students, encouraging initiatives that contribute to strengthening a sense of community through cultural programs, lectures, seminars, and social activities.

Her goal is to raise awareness of Latin American cultures and multicultural issues within the Wellesley community through participation in a wide range of programs. She also serves as an intermediary between Wellesley students and administrators, addressing the problems and concerns facing the Latinx community at Wellesley College. She also offers leadership training workshops to students on campus.

Mared Alicea-Westort's interests are focused on the leadership and development of each student's identity, focusing on the concept of intersectionality and, in general, the promotion of the health and emotional well-being of the student body.

Mared Alicea-Westort was born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras campus and obtained her master's degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in Psychology and Counseling, specializing in the field of labor development. She has held various administrative positions in higher education institutions, serving in several universities for more than thirty years.

Mared Alicea-Westort es Asistente de la Decana de Educación Intercultural y Consejera de l@s Estudiantes Latin@s, puesto que ocupa hace más de diecisiete años en Wellesley College, donde sirve como recurso para las estudiantes latinas en el campus. Como parte de su trabajo aboga por la visibilidad de las estudiantes de ascendencia latinx y multiétnica y multiracial, fomentando iniciativas que contribuyan a fortalecer un sentido de comunidad a través de programas culturales, charlas, seminarios, y actividades sociales.

Su objetivo es aumentar la conciencia sobre las culturas latinoamericanas y los problemas multiculturales en el marco de la comunidad de Wellesley mediante la participación en una amplia gama de programas. Trabaja como además como intermediaria entre las estudiantes y administradores de Wellesley, abordando los problemas y preocupaciones que enfrenta la comunidad Latin@s en Wellesley College. Ofrece además talleres de entrenamiento de liderazgo a las estudiantes en el campus.

Sus intereses se centran en el liderazgo y en el desarrollo de la identidad de cada estudiante, enfocándose en el concepto de interseccionalidad y, en general, la promoción de la salud y el bienestar emocional del estudiantado.

Mared Alicea-Westort nació en Bayamón, Puerto Rico. Hizo su licenciatura en la Universidad de Puerto Rico, recinto de Río Piedras y obtuvo su maestría en la Universidad de Massachusetts en Amherst, en Psicología y Consejería especializándose en el campo de desarrollo laboral. Ha ocupado diversos cargos administrativos en instituciones de educación superior, desempeñándose en varias universidades por más de treinta años.
