Nancy Elliott MukundanInstructor in Chemistry Laboratory
Teaches introductory and analytical chemistry laboratories.
In my current position as a lab instructor at Wellesley, I teach labs associated with the Chem 105, Chem 205, and Chem 361 courses. I also teach the lecture portion of the Chem 105 course during Summer Session. Before coming to Wellesley in 2010, I held teaching faculty positions at Duke University (2002-2009) and Spelman College (1996-2002).
My teaching interests arise from a goal to help students become comfortable and confident in the laboratory, especially at the introductory level. I emphasize the development of strong lab skills, including careful solution preparation and analysis. Beyond completing the lab procedure, I encourage my students to understand why they are carrying-out an experiment in a particular way. My students and I have been known to have fun with "extra" labs involving dry ice, glycerin, and dish soap.
In my free time, I seek out adventures with my husband and two sons. We enjoy exploring New England, especially the Berkshires, going to baseball games, and watching movies. I volunteer as a member of the selection committee for the Wellesley College Alumnae Achievement Awards and as a director of the Brookline Education Foundation.
