The smell of fried dough wafting from Severance Green today around noontime can only mean one thing—it's Lake Day!

The Schneider Board of Governors (SBOG) hosts this celebration each year but keeps the date top secret until the night before. Last night, SBOG invited members of the College community to "celebrate the hottest day of the year with your favorite day of the year..."

Lake Day grew out of the desire for students to take a break from the rigors of their academic pursuits and have fun. Held in the fall, the student body surprises the College community with a picnic and other festivities. The event today, which will take place from 12:30 to 2:00 PM on Severance Green, will feature "inflatables, fried dough, popcorn, cotton candy, lots of music..." and more.

Each year Lake Day takes on a different theme to creatively interpret the tradition. This year's theme is Lake Monsters. Past themes have included Games, Apps, and Technological Fun, Greased Lightnin', Game of Thrones, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (with Wendy Wonka), Harry Potter, and Alice in Wonderland.

Happy Lake Day!
