Deeksha Udupa
Deeksha is a junior majoring in Sociology with a minor in South Asia Studies.

In the summer of 2019, Deeksha worked as a research assistant with the MIT Urban Planning Department and the Displacement Research & Action Network (DRAN), where she investigated environmentally induced displacement of South India’s most vulnerable communities. She participated in field work in Chennai, Trivandrum, and Cochin, India, which included site visits and interviews of academics, government officials, and members of vulnerable communities. In the summer of 2019, as a Global Citizenship Program Fellow, Deeksha worked with Professor Smitha Radhakrishnan of the Wellesley College Sociology Department and conducted preliminary research on gender in the Indian Administrative Service and specifically how gender interacts with class and caste in the service. On campus, Deeksha is a member of the arts and music society Tau Zeta Epsilon and of the Wellesley College Association for South Asian Cultures (WASAC). Deeksha hopes to continue to hone her interest in South Asian issues through an internship during the summer of 2021.
