Harshini  Raman
As a junior majoring in Neuroscience, Harshini is an advocate for mental health awareness.

She is the founder of Artistic Hearts, a non-profit organization which allows students to play music for patients undergoing dialysis and interact with them. She’s also a Motivational Youth Speaker invited to speak at WE Day UN and various high schools to motivate students to give back to their communities. Harshini speaks Tamil and Hindi and has a working knowledge of French – as a graduate of Hindi USA, she now volunteers to teach Hindi to help promote Hindi language at the grassroots level. During summer 2019, Harshini interned at Otsuka Pharmaceuticals where she learned the statistical techniques to analyze gut microbial data and last summer, she contributed to a literature review on the interaction of steroids with the gut and vaginal microbiomes in a collaboration between the Tetel Lab and the Mayo Clinic. On campus, Harshini is a Ministrare Council Coordinator, Supplemental Instruction Leader for Introductory and Organic Chemistry, and research assistant in the Tetel Lab where she is investigating the effects of estradiol and high fat diet on anxiety and the gut microbiota. Upon graduation, Harshini plans to attend medical school with the long-term goal of being involved in medical education, research, and mentorship.
