A Guide to Finding the Right Course for You

Spanish

Entering students can study Spanish at different levels, according to the preparation they have had prior to coming to Wellesley.

SPAN 101 True beginners, defined as students with no previous study of Spanish, should enroll in this class.

Each term of SPAN 101 and SPAN 102 earns one unit of credit; however, both terms must be completed satisfactorily to receive credit for either course.

SPAN 201 Students who have studied Spanish in middle/high school, for any amount of time, should take the Spanish Department Placement Test to see whether 201 fits their needs.

PLEASE NOTE:  If you have any of the scores listed below you do not need to take the Placement Test. Please read the remaining sections of this document to find your recommended level of study.

  • Advanced Placement Spanish Language or Literature:  4 or 5

  • Any SAT II in Spanish:  690 or better

  • International Baccalaureate High Level: 5

Each term of SPAN 201 and SPAN 202 earns one unit of credit; however, both terms must be completed satisfactorily to receive credit for either course.
