Deborah Chung ’74

School portrait of a young girl labeled with Chung, Deborah

I came to Wellesley in 1970 at the age of 18, all by myself, all the way from Hong Kong. It was not only my first time away from home, but it was my first time living in a foreign country—yet I found a new home at Wellesley. I am grateful for the care I received from my host mother, Mrs. Ann Harper, Wellesley class of 1958, and the foreign student advisor, Ms. Elizabeth Blake. I loved studying mathematics under Mr. Knowles and Mrs. Schaffer, and piano with Mrs. Stevens. I’ll never forget my performance of a Beethoven Sonata on the piano in a Stone-Davis dorm concert, and the on-campus Christian worship service every Sunday was sweet and helpful. Having now lived in the U.S. for 55 years, I have come to love this country and identify with its values. May God bless and use Wellesley.
