When I received my housing assignment card in the summer of 1986, I thought it had a typo. But I soon figured out that I would be living in Dower, and not Tower Court! Although I had a desk in our common space (typical Dower suites had two double bedrooms and a common space in between), I usually studied on my bed, and then either typed up essays on a typewriter or went to the library’s computer lab. The framed print is from a visit to the MFA that turned me into a lifelong museum visitor and John Singer Sargent fan. I loved that boombox with its two cassette players for bootlegging—we all copied our favorite music from one another. Almost forty years later, my closest Wellesley friends remain the ones that I met that first week in Dower.
