These industry areas are growing and innovating rapidly – opportunities that are unheard of today may be top options in a few years. Broadly speaking, employment in computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 12 percent from 2014 to 2024, and employment of architecture and engineering occupations is projected to grow 3 percent (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015).

National Institutes of Standards & Technology Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (NIST SURF) (students)

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) offers Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) at NIST laboratories in Gaithersburg, MD, and Boulder, CO. The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship is designed to inspire undergraduate students to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) through a unique research experience that supports the NIST mission.  Eligible are currently enrolled undergraduates at Wellesley who are US citizens or permanent residents, majoring in chemistry, computer science, engineering, materials science, fire research, nanotechnology, information technology, mathematics, biology, manufacturing, statistics, or another STEM discipline.

Supports one or two years of undergraduate study in the fields of mathematics, engineering, and natural sciences. Eligible are college sophomores or juniors who are US citizens, permanent residents, and nationals intending to pursue research careers in STEM fields. Campus application deadline typically in late November/early December.

Churchill Scholarships (rising seniors & alumnae)

Supports one year of graduate study (including one-year research degrees) in science, mathematics, or engineering at Cambridge. Eligible: graduating seniors and recent alumnae of Wellesley College who are US citizens with majors in appropriate STEM fields. Campus application deadline typically in early October.

Society of Women Engineers Scholarship Program - expected direct application deadline

Eligible: women of any nationality who intend to study engineering, technology, or computing in the upcoming academic year.

The Society of Women Engineers Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to women studying baccalaureate or graduate programs, in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology and computer science.

Matthew Isakowitz Fellowship Program - direct application deadline

Eligible: college juniors, seniors, or graduate students who intend to pursue a full-time career in the commercial spaceflight industry; who have either earned an engineering degree or is working towards one; and who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Generation West Virginia’s Impact Fellowship invites tomorrow’s leaders to work, live and give in West Virginia by offering yearlong, paid fellowships at some of the Mountain State’s most innovative companies. During the course of a year, Impact Fellows work four days a week at one of our participating companies, while dedicating one day a week donating their brain power, time and expertise to projects in partnership with local nonprofit organizations.
