Wellesley, Massachusetts — Wellesley College today announced that MyinTuition—a non-profit organization created by Professor Phillip Levine that provides innovative, simple tools to help students and families estimate college costs—has been acquired by the College Board. This move will expand access for millions of students and families trying to understand what college will actually cost them.
Students and their families often face uncertainty when planning for college. Published sticker prices can be misleading, and navigating the complexities of financial aid, scholarships, and grants can be overwhelming. As a result, most people significantly overestimate the cost of college, according to the Strada Education Foundation.
Originally developed at Wellesley College, MyinTuition was designed to eliminate this confusion by providing quick ballpark estimates of what families are likely to pay. MyinTuition currently delivers around 800,000 estimates a year and is used by 69 colleges and universities.
“MyinTuition was created to simplify a process that has long been confusing and discouraging for too many families,” said Levine, an economist and widely respected expert on college cost and financial aid who is the Katharine Coman and A. Barton Hepburn Professor at Wellesley. “I’m grateful to the Wellesley College administration and staff for their support in bringing MyinTuition to life. This next chapter with College Board allows us to dramatically expand access to these tools, ensuring that far more students can get the clear, early information they need to explore and plan for college with confidence.”
MyinTuition stands apart from traditional net price calculators by offering a streamlined and accessible approach to understanding college costs. It features two tools to support college affordability decisions:
- Instant Net Price Estimator: Provides a clear snapshot of what a college education may cost, giving students an accessible starting point for exploration.
- Quick Cost Estimator: Delivers a more personalized estimate of what a family might pay, using a short set of six questions that can typically be completed in just minutes.
By joining College Board, MyinTuition will be able to expand to more institutions and reach millions of students nationwide, helping reduce uncertainty and empower families with better information about college affordability. As in the past, MyinTuition will operate separately from Wellesley College. Levine, who will continue in his faculty position at Wellesley, will join College Board to help lead and expand the work on MyinTuition.
