Wellesley College students cheered on runners in the scream tunnel during the Boston Marathon on Monday, April 21, 2025.

Paula A. Johnson, president of Wellesley College, was among dozens of higher education leaders to sign a statement condemning overreach from the federal government into campus affairs.

Nicole Sobski ’25 ran the 2025 Boston Marathon, stopping to greet friends and fellow students as she ran through the campus’s iconic Scream Tunnel.

Mixed in with the typical "Kiss me" posters, Katherine Li ‘25 gave a nod to current events with her sign that read “Run like you just found out there’s a 200% tariff on walking.”

A group of seniors from Wellesley College said they cheer on the runners every year. This year, they made signs playing on President Trump's new tariffs: "Kiss me before the tariff goes up again."

Wellesley’s decades-old Scream Tunnel tradition on Marathon Monday is often described as “the best day on campus” by students at the private women’s college, including by Julia Reste ’27.
