Serenity Hughes ’18, finding a family

Wellesley College alumna, Serenity Hughes, smiles for a portrait, wearing a pink blazer

At Wellesley she received a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship to conduct research on the Drill music scene in Chicago. She’s currently a workforce architecture consultant at Google. What shaped her time at Wellesley was working at Harambee House—a space for students of African descent, which hosts events for the campus community—with its then-director, Tracey Cameron. “Dr. Cameron was probably one of the most important people in my life at Wellesley. Having a mentor who was there for me, producing events with other students, being surrounded by so much love—that made my experience 2,423,423,423,423 times better. I had a family at Wellesley.”
