When I was a junior in high school, I eagerly began researching colleges. One evening, I flipped through a guidebook on highly selective colleges and landed on the page for Wellesley College. I had never imagined myself at a women’s college, but besides the promise of a high-quality education and a beautiful campus, one line stood out to me: “If you want to find out more about yourself, then come to Wellesley.”
It felt like an invitation rather than a description, and that sentence stayed with me. Later, my mother and I visited the campus. We leisurely walked the path that looped around Lake Waban and reached the beach as the sun was setting. Linking arms, we stood there quietly and watched as the sunlight shimmered softly across the water. I took a deep breath and felt an unexpected certainty. I wasn’t just visiting a college. I had found home!
