I worked for Scoop Jackson, senator from Washington state. Great fun! He and his office treated me well. He used to take me to the Senate and occasionally out to dinner. He introduced me to his colleagues and after graduation helped me get a job with one of the broadcasts. I turned it down (much to my regret) to go on a trip to Europe with a bunch of our classmates. When I got back the job was no longer available and I subsequently spent a long time searching for a job when I landed at USIA and worked in their exhibits division for five years. I met Charley and the rest is history! Sen. Scoop Jackson once visited Wellesley to give a lecture. He stayed in Tower Court and commented afterward that it was the first time in his life that he had slept in a woman’s dorm!
