The Alumnae Achievement Awards process is highly selective. The Association seeks to honor those alumnae whose accomplishments have brought them to the top of their fields of endeavor. The committee welcomes nominations that reflect the diversity of Wellesley alumnae and their many avenues of achievement.

  • alumnae of outstanding achievement and distinction as trailblazers, reaching national or international stature in their fields of endeavor;
  • alumnae who will effectively inspire students;
  • alumnae who reflect the diversity of Wellesley graduates and their accomplishments.

Qualifications

Any alumna who attended Wellesley as a degree candidate is eligible for nomination, with the exception of current employees of the College and alumnae serving on the College's Board of Trustees, the Alumnae Association Board of Directors, or the Alumnae Achievement Award Committee. Nominees need not have graduated from Wellesley. Volunteer service and financial support to the College are not a factor in the committee's considerations.

Timing

Nominations and updates are welcome at the Alumnae Office at any time. Those received by January 31 of each year are reviewed throughout the spring and summer by a rotating committee of seven alumnae who are appointed by the Alumnae Association Board of Directors. The Committee presents a slate of nominees to the Alumnae Association Board of Directors for ratification at its October board meeting. Presuming ratification occurs, award recipients are scheduled to receive their awards during the following fall (12 months hence).

Process

Nominations will be held in strictest confidence. As Wellesley College is fortunate to have a large pool of prominent alumnae, candidates may be considered through a number of deliberation cycles. Once nominated, a candidate’s nomination is on file in the Alumnae Office for periodic review and updates. The Committee always appreciates any new information about an alumna who has previously been nominated.

Nominators are encouraged to consult the biographies of previous Alumnae Achievement Award winners at the Alumnae Association website in order to gain a sense of the kinds of accomplishments the association has honored in the past. Nominators should provide all information that is available to them, even if incomplete.

A complete nomination includes detailed information about the background of the candidate, a clear description of the nature of her achievements. Confidential letters of recommendation (optional) on behalf of the candidate may also be submitted.

To nominate an alumna, please complete and submit the nomination form to the Alumnae Association.
