Alumnae and their families: Learn Italian with a new and free, online summer course

When July 6 - August 21, 2015
Requirements No previous knowledge of Italian is necessary. All you will need is a computer with a reliable Internet connection.
Costs None! All written, audio, and visual material is made available 24/7, free online. We will also offer optional Skype sessions with a TA for a small fee.
Features

The Department of Italian Studies faculty have developed a comprehensive program divided into 14 units to cover all levels of Italian grammar and syntax, as well as 14 cultural themes explored through different media. Our original material features:

  • Videos with native speakers of Italian, shot in different locations on campus and in the vicinity;
  • Interviews with native Italian speakers on a variety of cultural topics;
  • Animated slide presentations;
  • Clear and concise grammar charts you can read or download.
  • A variety of online self-corrected activities.

New features added to ItalianOnline Summer 2015:

  • Podcasts (90) of conversations among native speakers: a great way to practice when you are on-the-go!
  • “Narrated” grammar charts;
  • two new units (13 and 14);
  • three new interviews with native speakers;
  • all videos are now offered with optional close captions in Italian!
Three modules You may choose to take the course in three different ways to match your needs and summer schedule:
  1. a self-study module (progress at your own pace, do as much as you want when you want);
  2. a non-intensive module, requiring a commitment of about one hour a day, five days a week, covering in seven weeks the equivalent of a one-semester beginning Italian college course;
  3. an intensive module, requiring a commitment of about two hours a day, five days a week, covering in seven weeks material that is usually covered in two college semesters.

For the intensive and non-intensive module we will provide a syllabus that will help you organize your studies.

Although you will be able to switch from one module to the other at any point, we would like to have an idea beforehand of the number of participants in each module: when you sign up we will ask you to indicate which module you have chosen.

Benefits Learn, from the comfort of your home or from your favorite summer location, a language you may not have had the chance to study! Meet online other Wellesley alumnae, students, and members of the Department of Italian Studies!
