Commencement update for the Class of 2020
Watch the 2020 celebration online Sunday, May 31 at 12 p.m. EDT:
Due to the ongoing public health crisis, Wellesley will not be able to host an in-person commencement this year. While nothing can replace our traditional commencement, we invite you to join us for a special online event on Sunday, May 31 at 12 p.m. EDT, to celebrate the achievements of and award degrees to the remarkable red class of 2020. This celebration will allow us all—family, friends, faculty, staff, and alumnae—to join together as a community to acknowledge the accomplishments, compassion, and courage of our seniors.
The program will feature remarks from Dean Marquez, Senior Class Council, President Johnson, the student speaker, and the class of 2020 commencement speaker, whose identity will be revealed as part of the program. Seniors have requested that their names not be read individually as part of the celebration, so instead we will present the names of each graduate in aggregate in a series of slides.
We invite you to join the conversation on social media using #Wellesley2020. Many of the messages and photos will be included on the class website, and this is a great way to celebrate each student while families and friends may be physically apart.
This will not be the last time we celebrate the class of 2020. We look forward with great anticipation to a time when it is safe for us to gather on our campus to recognize these outstanding seniors as they begin their journeys as Wellesley alumnae.
Please note: For those who are not able to join us live, a recording of the celebration will be made available on the Class of 2020 website.
We hope to welcome family and friends back to campus for a future celebration
While nothing can replace our traditional commencement, this May 31 we will go forward with a virtual ceremony, during which we will confer degrees so that graduates are able to move forward with careers and further academic pursuits. And next year, when we expect this pandemic has passed, we will gather here at Wellesley to celebrate in person with our red class of 2020.
We look forward to welcoming you to campus as we celebrate the wonderful accomplishments of your student. As planning progresses, we will post updates on this website.

Original 2020 plans:
Commencement Exercises Sunday:
Tickets will not be required for the ceremony in 2020. There should be adequate seating to accommodate your guests. Additionally, there is seating available in air conditioned venues including Jewett Auditorium, Collins Cinema, and Pendleton Hall. This ceremony is also livestreamed.
Each graduating senior will be issued one complimentary guest ticket for the Baccalaureate service at Houghton Chapel. Seating is limited in the chapel. No additional tickets may be purchased. Only seniors and guests with a ticket will be seated inside the Chapel. Additional viewing areas will be available for family members and the service will be livestreamed.
Please take into consideration the ever-changing nature of New England Weather. The Commencement ceremony under the tent on Severance Green Lawn will continue rain or shine. In the event of rain, please be prepared to wear appropriate shoes and clothing. There will be water stations set up at the ceremony.
Commencement Flowers will be set up near the commencement ceremony early in the morning to offer beautiful bouquets of flowers for sale. You may also pre-order flowers if you prefer. Order Flowers in advance or at the kiosk located near the ceremony.
