Emi Nishida, a composer, pianist, percussionist, and conductor, has been cultivating her unique sound by writing, arranging, and performing music for films, animated series, TV commercials, and live performances worldwide. She considers herself genre-agnostic and draws inspiration from a variety of musical traditions.
Her piece “Hangover Square” for orchestra won an honorable mention award at The American Prize in Composition, and “After You Left” was premiered at a sold-out SixTONES eST arena tour in 2021. Next year, she was selected as Top 10 composers at the Oticons Faculty Film Music Competition. Her piece for wind ensemble “In the Night, We Saw a Shadow” was premiered at Jordan Hall in 2023. Her first original album “In Between,” which features Budapest Art Orchestra, was released in the same year.
She has also been working as an orchestrator for a Japanese composer, YUKI KANESAKA, for his animated series such as “The Ghost in the Shell” and “Nippon-Sangoku”.
She began working with Wellesley College in 2019, accompanying the students in its choral program, and officially joined the Music Department in 2025 as a collaborative faculty member and pianist. In addition to her work at Wellesley, she serves as a lead pianist in the Voice Department at Berklee College of Music, where she works across a diverse range of genres, including classical, jazz, pop, R&B, and musical theater. Passionate about collaboration and performance, she is also a founding member of Streepz, an award-winning female pop duo, which actively performs in the US and Japan.
