Kathleen Boyd

Senior Music Performance Faculty in Flute

Flutist Kathleen Boyd performs actively in Boston and throughout New England. She is a member of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra (29 years serving as principal flute) and the Rhode Island Philharmonic. In addition, she plays principal flute with Symphony New Hampshire, and has performed and toured nationally with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra.

Performances include the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops Orchestras, Portland Symphony, Boston Landmarks Orchestra, Alea III, Springfield Symphony, Coro Allegro, and others. She has participated in the Festivals at Tanglewood, Bach Aria, Grand Teton, Sandpoint, Monadnock, Operafestival di Roma, Newport, RI, VentiCordi, Ogunquit, and others.

Previously, she was principal flutist of the Orquesta Filarmonica de Caracas. She has performed concert tours in Spain, England, Rome, St. Petersburg, Russia and Greece. Ms. Boyd performed with Star Wars in Concert Tour throughout the US and Mexico. She also enjoys performing with Mario Frangoulis and his Greek ensemble, traveling in the US and Canada. Ms. Boyd is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music. Her principal teachers were Doriot Anthony Dwyer, James Pappoutsakis and Lois Schaefer. Additional studies and masterclasses include Paula Robison, Thomas Nyfenger, Torkil Bye, Peter Lloyd, Samuel Baron, Leone Buyse, and Elizabeth Rowe. Presently, she serves on the faculty at Brown University, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and the Cambridge School of Weston.
