welcome to the art department

The visual arts have occupied a central place in a Wellesley education since 1875. All students, regardless of their major, are encouraged to embrace our remarkable visual legacy and to help us shape its future. Located in the Jewett Art Center and Pendleton West, the Art Department is home to art history, studio art, architecture, and media arts.

The Art Department hosts many special events for the campus community, including guest lectures and gallery exhibitions, film screenings, and visiting artist demonstrations, and applied arts workshops. These events are free and open to all.

Institutional memberships to the Photographic Resource Center in Boston, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Harvard Art Museums, and to the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park in Lincoln, MA have been provided by the Art Department and Media Arts and Science program. Just show your Wellesley ID at the door.
