What's New at the QAI?

Blended Learning Initiative Website Launch

March 9, 2017

The Wellesley site for the Blended Learning Initative has launched and the Applied Data Analysis and Statistical Inference course can be found as one of the projects. The Initative combines an innovative use of technology with courses and projects in a variety of different disciplines. 


Digital Scholarship Day on Tuesday, March 21

Please also join us for Digital Scholarship Day, a celebration of innovative technologies and methods used by the Wellesley College community, including students of the QAI. The event will take place on Tuesday, March 21 in the Pendleton Atrium, with the Showcase starting from 3 to 4:15 pm and the Demo from 4:15 to 5:30 pm.

 


Panel on Quantitative Reasoning, Literature and Language

Please join us in attending a panel on Quantitative Reasoning, Language and Literature on Tuesday, March 7th at 5 pm in the Wellesley College Club. Joanna Milton '16 and Kat Liang '17, an alum and a current Intern of the QAI respectively, as well as Professor Casey Pattanayak, Director of the QAI, will be speaking.

 

 

 


Math Colloquium: Rating the Chess System by Professor Mark Glickman

On Tuesday, February 21st, Professor Mark E. Glickman of Harvard University will be presenting his analysis on chess rating systems at a Math Colloquium. The event starts at 3:45 pm with refreshments in SCI 362 and the lecture at 4:15 pm in SCI 396.


Upcoming Spring 2017 Events at the QAI

Three QAI related events have been scheduled to take place in the Spring 2017 semester. These are a Math Colloquium presented by Mark E. Glickman of the Department of Statistics at Harvard University, a QR Connections Panel on exploring the intersection of QR and Humanities, and the Digital Scholarship Day. QR260 Applied Data Analysis Final Project Poster Presentation

The Final Project Poster Session for QR 260: Applied Data Analysis took place on Wednesday, December 7 at the Science Center. Students from QR260 presented their research and analysis, using concepts they have learned in class, on applicable topics of their choosing. Bias and Beyond: The 2016 Election

November 23, 2016

The "Bias and Beyond: The 2016 Election" teach-in held on November, 18 brought together the Wellesley community to discuss the effects and implications of bias in the 2016 election. Led by four faculty members, Cassandra Pattanayak, Eni Mustafaraj, Angela Bahns, and Nicholas Knouf, the event fostered an engaging dialogue going forward.
