Suzanne Storey Speaker ’66

In summer of 1964, I joined the scriptwriters on the Cape Committee, to compose the Junior Show. This meant a feverish ten-day workshop in Chathamport, MA, just before fall classes began. Other committees included music, lyrics and choreography, plus cooks, stage managers, a typist and a director. As the script took shape, other committees swung into action; songs were composed, lyrics added, dances improvised, costumes, staging and blocking worked out. We’d work all day in our groups; if we got stuck, we went for a walk on the beach. We presented our work each evening before dinner, to much hilarious input from the rest of the crew. Classes began, casting calls went out and rehearsals began in Alumnae Hall. The publicity song was performed in all the dorms before dinner to rouse interest in the show. Our two-day run took place in October, leaving the Cape Committee with happy memories.
