A woman wearing dark rimmed circular glasses with her hair in two buns on each side of her head holds her hand with her index and pinkie fingers extended in the horns symbol and pokes her tongue out at the camera.

I never wanted to attend Wellesley. When I visited, I could give two toots about a beautiful campus. But my parents wanted me to apply because of Wellesley’s connection to Soong Mayling. As standard Chinese parents, they cared more about a name university than what I wanted for my life. Eventually, I just could not take the constant back and forth anymore, so I said “You decide!” and left them with my acceptance letters. It was they who chose Wellesley for me.

Students love Wellesley for so many different reasons (none of which were on my parents’ list). But how lucky was I? Because, now years later I have 20 best friends who I speak with on an almost daily basis. They keep me sane, laughing, crying and they remind me that I matter in this world. So… thanks ba and ma–that was a pretty good choice.
