Liz Miranda ’02’s call to action

Which is so simple as to be profound: “At Wellesley, I saw banners and signs that said ‘We are women who will make a difference in the world.’ I thought: ‘How do I go back home and create a new narrative for girls who look like me?’” In high school, she fought for environmental justice in her neighborhood. In college, she worked with Ethos (#8), the change-making cultural student organization for students of African descent. After, she rewrote the narrative, first as director of youth opportunity at Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative, then as executive director of the Hawthorne Youth and Community Center, now as a member of the Massachusetts State Senate, representing the 2nd Suffolk District.
