A woman dressed in white and holds a red umbrella. Behind her are others dressed in white with red hats or flowers.

I began as a traditional-aged student at the University of Michigan in 1980. I felt lost on the large campus. I married my college sweetheart, then dropped out of school.

When I was 28, my sister and I were on Wellesley’s campus during the alumnae parade. I’d never seen such a proud group of women, marching confidently, all dressed in white (with a splash of class color). I sensed their powerful sisterhood and unstoppable drive. I said to my sister, “Sure wish I’d gone HERE.”

A few years later I was struck by an ad in the paper: “A Place For a Woman To Start Again: The Wellesley College Davis Scholar Program.” At the info session I felt like I was finally home. To be learning again was like oxygen. I graduated in December 2000.

I was among the proud alumnae marching at the next reunion and every opportunity since!
