Blossoms of Nostalgia
ink, gouache paint
It is a reflection on a childhood for which I am still nostalgic, an especially challenging feeling as I transition into adulthood. My ultimate intention throughout this project is to capture a feeling from its original context, and I hope that if others see my work, they can relate to that internalized processing of emotion. In my artwork, I am drawn to the details of life often thought to be ignored by the eye of the viewer, but perhaps are inadvertently consumed. I believe these objects that we unintentionally consume, but do consume more than other objects, reveal our personal explorations of value, truth, and meaning. Flowers have always been one of these details of life that I pay attention to, even without meaning to. This project is an exploration of what flowers reveal about my own personal exploration, specifically speaking to the feeling of nostalgia. After being home for many months, I have done deep reflection on what conjures my own feelings of nostalgia, why, and how they are integral to the person I am now.
