The selection of 50 works presented here, purchased with FOA support—and one to grow on!—celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Friends of Art giving and looks forward to the future of this extraordinary group.
From their first meeting on March 16, 1965—with Nancy Angell Streeter '50 as Chair—Friends of Art has swelled to reach across the country. Over five decades, these inspiring and devoted women have perfected the art of philanthropy at Wellesley College.
Since the unveiling of our signature Rafael Moneo building in 1993, Friends of Art support has focused on the Davis: it affirms the Museum as a hub of excellence at Wellesley, and makes possible the extraordinary acquisitions, groundbreaking exhibitions, and unique student opportunities that distinguish the Davis among its academic peers.
Celebrating “Friends of Art at 50” is the perfect opportunity to honor the past and look to the future. The FOA Regions will host “Davis on the Road” events, spreading news of the Davis beyond campus. The new Davis initiative, “Friends Speak / FOA Voices,” will capture the FOA legacy through an oral history program undertaken by students.
And, given the spectacular success of our first two international Patrons Trips (2014 London and 2015 Dubai), we expect the 2016 Patrons Trip to the Burgundian Netherlands & TEFAF to be out of this world.
Join us! Please honor the legacy and invest in the future of Friends of Art. Become a member today, and encourage your friends to join as well. Reconnect with the global community of Friends of Art members, and help us to build the next 50 years at the Davis.
