Tonia Petty

Harambee House Affiliate Chaplain

Tonia Petty serves as the Harambee House Affiliate Chaplain within the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life. Before coming to Wellesley College, Tonia earned a Master of Divinity degree from Andover Newton Theological School, focusing on Religion and Conflict Transformation. During this program, she learned how religious leaders can be instrumental in facilitating peaceful approaches and conversations to resolve conflicts. She traveled to China and South Korea as part of her training and was able to learn how religious leaders in these countries contributed to conflict resolution and meeting practical needs in their communities. 

Tonia is interested in mentoring college students, she earned a master's degree in Higher Education Administration from Geneva College, with a focus on campus ministry and career counseling. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology from Howard University. Outside of her service in ministry, she works as a licensed Speech Therapy Assistant. 

Prior to coming to Wellesley, Tonia worked as a Protestant Chaplain mentoring students to take on leadership positions. She also has a passion for community service-learning and planned activities with students who wanted to put their faith in action. One of her favorite quotes is "Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”
