If you are interested in studying, majoring or minoring in Peace and Justice at Wellesley, you will have the opportunity to take some of your courses at the University of Bologna, Italy!

Italy is famous worldwide for its art, literature and music. The city of Bologna is no exception: this beautiful medieval city is known for its cuisine, porticos, and historic buildings, as well as for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere. But did you know that Bologna is considered one of the most forward-thinking cities in Europe and is actively engaged in human rights and social justice issues? This lively Student town is a member of the European Coalition of Cities Against Racism (ECCAR).

Moreover, The University of Bologna offers a wide range of courses covering the humanities, social sciences, gender and race studies, law, international relations, sustainable development, and much more. The city is also home to the Italian Women's Library--one of the leading centers in Italy dedicated to women's history, and currently Italy's largest collection specialized in women's culture, gender and feminist studies. Bologna is also the site of one of the Italian Interdepartmental Centers for Research on Peace. 

 

How to take advantage of this great opportunity?

By taking four semesters of beginning and intermediate Italian (ITAS 101-102; ITAS 201-202), or two semesters of intensive Italian at Wellesley (ITAS 103; ITAS 203); you will be qualified to apply to the ECCO program (the Wellesley, Vassar, Wesleyan program in Italy).

Students accepted into the program may enroll for one semester or the full academic year, and take a combination of program courses and regular university courses at the University of Bologna. 

The ECCO program (open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors) is committed to high academic standards and to providing opportunities for students to improve their knowledge of Italian language and culture. It also offers a unique opportunity for students interested in studying humanitarian and environmental issues in one of the most prestigious centers of learning in Europe. As a matter of fat, the University of Bologna is considered the oldest university on the Western world, dating back to 1088.
