Study Abroad Through Wellesley’s Many Programs

Wellesley-in-Aix, France

A study abroad program in France offering challenging courses, an authentic encounter with French culture, and optimum conditions for achieving real fluency in French. 

ECCO Bologna, Italy

Vassar College, Wellesley College, and Wesleyan University offer a study abroad program at the University of Bologna in Italy. The program is committed to the highest academic standards and to providing opportunities for students to develop their knowledge of Italian language and culture in one of the oldest and most prestigious academic environments in Europe.

PRESHCO Cordoba, Spain

Wellesley College and Smith College have joined forces to provide a unique opportunity for study abroad at the University of Córdoba in Spain. PRESHCO provides opportunities for students to develop their knowledge of Spanish language, literature, and culture in one of the most picturesque and historically rich cities of Spain.

Wellesley-in-Chile

Students have the option of studying in Santiago or Valparaiso. They enroll directly in the University and attend classes taught in Spanish with students from Chile while living in a host family. Administered by Middlebury. 

Geneva Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies

Wellesley College and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva have established a program for Wellesley students to earn both a BA from Wellesley and an MA from the Graduate Institute in 5 years. Commencing in Fall 2016, Wellesley College students may also do a stand-alone semester abroad. 

Wellesley-in-Iceland

Wellesley's Fall Semester program at University of Akureyri in Northern Iceland. Study a variety of subjects with courses taught in English, live in a vibrant & fun college town, and experience the stunning beauty of Iceland - including the Northern Lights! Program also includes a week at Skalanes Research Station in East Iceland.

Wellesley-in-Paris

The new Wellesley-in-Paris program is focused on understanding colonialism and its legacies. This program begins in Spring 2023 at the American University in Paris (AUP). Students will also spend two week on Field Study in Senegal. English will be the language of instruction, though students are expected to either have taken French before the program, or begin learning French during their stay in Paris.

Exchange Programs

Spend a semester or year at one of our reciprocal exchange partner schools. These programs are a great option for students who seek an independent experience and wish to become deeply involved in a host institution.

Ted Wang Fellowship for Study Abroad in Asia

Wellesley's Ted Wang Fellowship for East Asian Language & Business encourages Wellesley College students considering a career in business to gain advanced language skills in an East Asian language and knowledge of the richness of East Asian culture. During the spring semester of their junior year, fellows undertake a rigorous semester of study at one of our partner institutions in China, Korea, or Japan and complete an internship in a relevant business, either prior to or following the study abroad semester.

Domestic Exchange (Study at Another College in the US)

Wellesley students may apply to spend one or two semesters at another US college or university through the Twelve College Exchange, our exchange with Spelman College or as through a Visiting Student Program. Priority admission is offered to students from Twelve College member institutions at the National Theater Institute and Williams Mystic Coastal & Ocean Studies program. Other US based programs include Semester in Environmental Science and SEA Semester. More information linked here.

First Year Global Scholars Program

The Global Scholars program is designed for students who plan to pursue academic topics with global reach, those who want a study abroad option early in their academic careers, or those who feel they would benefit from learning and living in a more intimate cohort as they transition to college. Global Scholars will participate in a three-day orientation on the Wellesley campus and will travel together to the host country. They will also participate in a spring entry orientation and take part in a special ceremony hosted by President Paula Johnson to recognize their participation in this new initiative.
