Tamako Ishibashi Ishii ('53)

Tamako Ishibashi Ishii was a member of the Class of 1953 at Wellesley College. Before Wellesley, she graduated from Tsuda College in 1949. She and Keiko Okamoto ('53) were the first Japanese students to be accepted to Wellesley after the war.

  • A daughter of Seiichiro Ishbash who found Bridgestone Company with his brother
  • Married Mr. KoichiroIshii, a businessman and senior managing director of the Bridgestone Tire Company
  • Practiced yoga well into her 70's
  • Her husband was a business executive and politician (served in the Japanese parliament.)
  • Had three children: one son, Sotaro, and two daughters, Haruko and Nobuko

Ishii recently passed away on August 11th, 2017.
