Toshiko Kuribayashi Ishizuka ('52)

Toshiko Kuribayashi Ishizuka was a member of the Class of 1952 at Wellesley College. Before Wellesley, she studied English at the University of Tokyo, and graduated from Tokyo Women's College in 1948. Ishizuka received a BA in English at Wellesley, and was the first postwar Japanese Wellesley graduate.

After Wellesley...

  • Married Mr. Shunjiro Ishizuka, a correspondent for the Mainichi Newspaper. For his work, they travelled to locations including Washington DC, Paris, and Tokyo.
  • Had two sons, Toru and Shunsuke.
  • 1953 - 1960 taught at Tsuda College
  • 1960 - 1964 moved to Washington D.C.
  • 1964 - 1968 returned to Tokyo, and resumed teaching at Tsuda College
  • 1968 -1971 moved to Paris
